The publication offers an introduction to the Universal Design for Learning (UDL) philosophy concieved by the founding members of the Center of Applied Special Technology (CAST). There is now a National Center on Universal Design for Learning Centre (2009) whose sole mission is to support the effective implementation of UDL by connecting stakeholders in the field and providing resources and information.
